The North’s official Korean Central News Agency said leader Kim Jong Un had observed the Pukguksong-2 missile test Sunday, which had verified the reliability and accuracy of the solid-fuel engine’s operations, stage separation and late-stage nuclear warhead guidance.
Ultimately, the transition from liquid to solid propellant missiles will bring about a fundamental paradigm shift in North Korean missile systems (Figure 8). A road-mobile ICBM, tentatively named the Pukguksong-3, employing solid propellant rocket motors could easily achieve the range performance required to hit the US mainland in the future, making it a serious potential threat to the United States.
It began with snarky Wonks ironically tweeting about North Korea, and then suddenly it became a terrifying nightmare for capitalist rat-pigs.
What this missile brings to the table is a much higher degree of mobility, survivability and responsiveness than the Nodong. The Pukguksong-2 was tested from a cold-launch canister system carried on a tracked transporter-erector-launcher (TEL) vehicle, which would provide substantially greater cross-country mobility than the Nodong’s wheeled TEL.

The Korean Central News Agency said the Pukguksong-2 strategic weapon system was successfully test-fired Sunday. It added that the missile launched from a mobile launcher used solid propellants and a new high-thrust engine developed in the country. The missiles also proved it can engage in evasive maneuvers during flight, the North said.
