As one of versions – Russian defense in Tartus shot down a US drone in the Eastern Mediterranean in Syrian airspace in retaliation for the downed su-22 and an Iranian drone, and the Americans tried save face by pretending it crashed in California. On the other hand, it may be just coincidence and these episodes are not connected, and shots were fired at other targets.
According to media reports, Iranian specialists carried out a series of tests of the Russian air-defense system during the Demavend exercises involving the testing of different scenarios for repelling potential threats. During the testing, officers worked through the stages of the detection, identification, interception, and elimination of targets with the S-300.
With the Syrian Ministry of Defense finally having embraced 21st century media technology, it now regularly uploads high-definition images on both its official website and twitter account. Despite this ‘giant’ leap forward, the Syrian MoD still only communicates to the outside world in Arabic, thereby excluding a large audience that could otherwise be interested in reading or viewing the MoD’s statements on ongoing battles in the Syrian theatre. Nonetheless, the images published provide for a perfect opportunity for another ‘Photo Report’.
The Russian Aerospace Forces will use Iran’s military infrastructure for operations against terrorists in Syria if Moscow and Tehran deem it necessary, Russian ambassador in the Islamic Republic Levan Dzhagaryan said in an interview with TASS.
“If the leadership of the two countries will consider it necessary to use the Iranian military infrastructure to combat terrorism in Syria or elsewhere, such steps will be taken,” the diplomat said.

The S-400 Triumph (NATO reporting name: SA-21 Growler) is an air defence missile system developed by Almaz Central Design Bureau of Russia.…
Ever since it destroyed Syria’s anti-aircraft systems in 1982, Israel’s air force has enjoyed absolute aerial superiority (and therefore, almost complete freedom of action) on the northern front. But that effectively ended the moment Russia decided to beef up its aerial defenses around Tartus. Almost without effort, the Russians managed to restrict the strongest air force in the Middle East.
New Russian systems in Syria track every Israeli fighter right on takeoff, thus limiting operational freedom against Hezbollah
“First, S-400 systems have been there for a long time and this fact was taken calmly, no one said it was for a show,” she said in an interview with the Dozhd TV channel. “S-300 systems were deployed following leaks from experts close to the United States’ officials that cruise missiles could be used to bomb Syrian aerodromes, and these leaks probably were not groundless.”
“Taking into account the fact that our aerospace force is conducting an operation and our systems are deployed there, no one knows were a missile might fly. That’s why, an S-300 system was deployed,” she said.
“Therefore, any missile or air strikes on the territory controlled by the Syrian government will create a clear threat to Russian servicemen.”
“Russian air defense system crews are unlikely to have time to determine in a ‘straight line’ the exact flight paths of missiles and then who the warheads belong to. And all the illusions of amateurs about the existence of ‘invisible’ jets will face a disappointing reality,” Konashenkov added.
“Indeed, the Syrian Arab Republic received an S-300 anti-aircraft missile system. This system is designed to ensure the safety of the naval base in Tartus and ships located in the coastal area…”
The Iranian authorities have displayed the S-300 surface-to-air missile systems supplied by Russia at a military parade in Tehran marking National Army Day, Iranian news agencies Mehr and Tasnim reported.
They pointed out that this was the first time that these missile systems were shown in public. According to the media, only parts of the S-300 missile system were displayed
The Russian complex S-300 plays an important role in ensuring the national security of Iran, at the same time, Moscow is interested in supporting Tehran on a number of important issues such as the fight against ISIS in Syria, the settlement of the situation in Nagorno-Karabakh, suppressing the negative actions on the part of Turkey, said the military political scientists Alexander Perendzhiev.
Russian air defense missile system, S-300 is ready to be delivered to Iran, said the country’s Defense Minister Hossein Dehgan.
Dehgan said that a part of S-300 systems will be delivered to Iran in first quarter of 2016 and the remaining parts until the end of 2016.
Dehgan also said Iran can purchase the S-400 defense system in the future, if necessary. He said that Iran itself is manufacturing a long-range defense missile system, Barvar 373, which would be tested by March 2017.
Russia has settled all issues surrounding the delivery of S-300 air defense missile systems to Iran through lengthy and delicate negotiations, Russian Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Rogozin said in an interview with the Rossiya-24 (VGTRK) news TV channel on Dec. 30.
On November 9, Russia signed a new contract with Iran on the delivery of “about 300” S-300 air defenсe systems, according to Russia’s state technologies corporation Rostec.
Iranian Ambassador to Moscow Mehdi Sanayee announced that the contract to deliver the Russian S-300 missile defense system to Tehran has been finalized and its implementation is underway.
“As our defense minister and the Russian side have announced, the contract has been finalized and both sides have reached a definite agreement in this regard,” Sanayee told FNA.
“The implementation of the contract is moving on its natural course,” he added.
