Deir ez-Zor. 29.01.2017 | Colonel Cassad

Briefly about the situation in Deir-ez-Zor to 29 January 2017.

In recent days the situation has not fundamentally changed. SAA repelled the attack of militants on an air base. Black tried to use the surprise factor by launching car bomb attacks during the sand storm, and then tried to move onto the airfield. Met strong resistance, the enemy after a few failed attacks, was forced to halt the offensive and begin regrouping.
In turn, the SAA was not able to achieve the full connection of the split parts of the enclave. Thrown over the Qamishli reinforcements helped to stabilize the situation in the area of “Panorama” and the 137th base, which in turn allowed to throw more power in fighting in the area of the old cemetery and the adjacent ruins of Deir-ez-Zor. The enemy lost part of the cemetery, but has generally held steady in the South-Eastern section and adjacent to the road the ruins. Yesterday’s attack for the SAA failed.Around lunchtime on 29 January there was a new attack from the area of the hospital “Assad” and the University “al-Furat”. Goals are identical to yesterday’s – SAA wants to dislodge the enemy from the cemetery and the adjacent ruins, to resting on the area to start the clean-up area near the road. At the moment, the fighting in the area of the cemetery continues.

The area of the fighting is still actively bombed the Syrian air force and Russian (su-34, Tu-22). Reinforcements, the enclave takes still helicopters through Qamishli, plus military transport planes dropped in the area of containers with ammunition and drugs in an effort to partially compensate for the problems with the use of a runway at the airbase of Deir ez-Zor. In respect of the issue of the effectiveness of bombing, they obviously helped to disrupt the General offensive of the Caliphate with the elimination of the enclave, but failed to facilitate the return of lost items, at least for now.

Overall, there is a certain balance of forces when both sides are trying to attack, but the balance of forces is such that decisive success can’t reach neither one nor the other. However, the Caliphate still in positive territory, as even the stabilization of the front in the current situation, is beneficial in preparation for future operations in the area of Deir ez-Zor, but the Syrians stabilization of the front in current situation is not beneficial, as the question of preparing a new offensive against airbase will be only a matter of time.So while there are opportunities to achieve the connection of the split parts of the enclave, attacks SAA will continue. The Caliphate however is also not yet ready to abandon more ambitious plans and the ongoing regrouping of forces aimed at including and to the resumption of strong attacks on the airbase.

“The victim” propaganda of the Caliphate Issam Zahreddin.

PS. And Yes, positive news came from Wadi Barada – fighters surrendered. Valley officially released. The water supply of Damascus, is under control of government forces.

During the final phase of the operation released more than 400 square kilometers of Syrian territory, as well as several cities and towns.
Expect increased transactions of the SAA against the remaining enclaves in and around Damascus.
