Briefly on Syria 15.10.2016 | Colonel Cassad

Overall, the SAA continues to solve the problem of the elimination of the encircled enclaves of “green”. With the improvement of the situation in Hama, Assad is now quite comfortable. The rebellion is constrained by internal problems associated with the American elections, Russia is increasing its military presence, and the recent failure seriously demoralized militants. The more territories Assad liberates before the moment when the US will start to become more active in Syria, the easier it is for Syria, Iran and Russia to deal with this activity.

Briefing the options … | Sic Semper Tyrannis

In the case of the options meeting concerning Syria at the White House on Friday, it seems clear that what was briefed was a set of options generated by the Joint Staff. In this meeting the president/CinC met with the chiefs to discuss the options and their secondary effects. Others may have been invited; the DNI, the Director of CIA, the Secretary of State, the CENTCOM commander, but they would essentially be “strap hangers”, i.e., observers at what was essentially a JCS “show.” An accomplished briefer would have presented the Courses of Action. This would be followed by discussion led by General Dunford, CJCS.

Brief but important | Colonel Cassad

In Aleppo, the SAA and “Liwa al-Quds” began moving towards the building and Hanano neighborhoods Haidari and Ayun-tal. In the next 1-3 days should destroy all assumptions, and to create conditions for entry in high-density housing. Haidari looks a tough nut to crack, so I would assume that they would use the existing leads in the industrial building next to the quarter Ayun-tal and the ruins North-East of Hanau. Blows to these areas can be supported by the occurrence in the quarter, Bastan Basha, allowing to hit the rear of the fighters holding the front in Ayun Thale.Among other things, the cleanup of this quarter are Kurds from Sheikh Maksoud, as it is here in the Kurdish quarter, the militants had launched a “Hellfire” and were firing from mortars.

The battle for Aleppo 13.10.2016 | Colonel Cassad

In the background of a slow but inevitable reduction of the territory controlled by the militants in Aleppo is the expected return to Vienna-Geneva negotiation format. So as a situational deal between the US and Russia on Syria eventually led to progress, the situation decided to roll back to January 2016, when the talks on Syria in addition to the United States and Russia will participate and other stakeholders – Turkey, Iran and Saudi Arabia. The first meeting at the level of the foreign Ministry have to pass this week. A lot of it is not to be expected, since everything depends on the long-standing problems associated with the fact that the United States cannot and do not want to divide terrorists into good and bad, because what they actually are indirect allies of “al-Qaeda” and “al-Nusra” in the Syrian war. In light of the military successes of the SAA in 2016, Russia and Iran will be less inclined to make concessions to opponents of Assad than it was in December 2015 and January 2016, when the position of the fighters was much better than now.
