Armenia, Azerbaijan say fighting surges along Karabachos frontline

Arch foes Armenia and Azerbaijan said Saturday fierce clashes had erupted along the front line of Nagorny Karabakh, with Russia urging an immediate ceasefire to end the latest surge of violence over the disputed region.

Armenia’s defense ministry said that “Azerbaijan on Friday night launched a massive attack along the Karabakh frontline using tanks, artillery, and helicopters.” Armenian-backed separatist forces meanwhile claimed to have shot down two Azeri helicopters.

“As a result of the Karabakh army’s counterstrike, Azeri forces were repelled and sustained serious losses in manpower,” a defense ministry statement said. “Heavy fighting is underway.”

The troops of Karabakh repulsed in most areas where the attacks of the Azerbaijani army, while the Azerbaijanis managed to keep some of the height that they took advantage of suddenness of attack. Now there are ongoing battles with use of armored machinery and artillery. At the moment in Armenia, Karabakh and Azerbaijan full mobilization has not been announced – the full-scale mobilisation activities will mean that a full-scale war is inevitable.

Turkish NGOs are ‘main supplier’ of extremists in Syria | DW

Russia’s UN Ambassador Vitaly Churkin on Friday sent a letter to the UN Security Council saying three Turkish humanitarian organizations were fronts for the country’s intelligence service to send weapons and supplies to extremists in Syria.

“The main supplier of weapons and military equipment to ISIL fighters is Turkey, which is doing so through non-governmental organizations,” Churkin said in a letter dated March 18, referring to the self-declared “Islamic State” (IS) group by another acronym, ISIL.
